President’s Message

We still need a 2nd Vice President and Political Action Officer.

Good Fall to you!  To past retirees we start another year of retirement. “Retirement is wonderful.

“It's doing nothing without worrying about getting caught at it.” ~Gene Perret.  And from Calvin and Hobbes “There's never enough time to do all the nothing you want.”  To the new retirees  “Retirement means no pressure, no stress, no heartache... unless you play golf.” ~Gene Perret.  Welcome to the new phase of your life.

Since the last Spring District Meeting, the executive has held an Executive Meeting, in June, in Warkworth, where, afterwards, the members of the Eastern part of our District were invited to join us for dessert and coffee.  This is a time when the executive and committee members get the wonderful opportunity to mingle and chat with members in smaller more intimate sessions.  Another session is in Orono is September for the Western Area.

Take me out to the Ballgame.

Thirty members, their families and friends took advantage of the reduced

price on the Bluejay tickets ($42 tickets for $25 with part of the proceeds going to the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fun).  They attended the game on the last Sunday in August. The Bluejays Won!  My family is convinced that if I watch or attend a Bluejay game that I am the team’s jinx, as I have never seen a winning game. So, from the results, you can see that I did not attend or watch the game that day!

I am looking forward to seeing many of you at the Annual Meeting of District 30 at the Lions Centre in Cobourg in October.  Please bring a new retiree or a member who has not attended for a while, along with you. As well as a short business meeting with RTO/ERO updates, we should have some great entertainment for you and a great lunch.  It is also a good time to renew old acquaintances with former colleagues.

At that time we will also introduce the new Executive and Committee members for 2006/2007.  We still need a 2nd Vice President and Political Action Officer, so I hope you will consider volunteering for one of these positions.

This is my last newsletter message to you as your RTO/ERO President.  It was in my first year of retirement that I came on to the District 30 executive to assist someone who needed help with the Social Committee, someone whom I have never met in person in all my time on the executive.  But ignorance was bliss!  I thought, innocently, that accepting that role to assist someone would be a short-term commitment but eight years later I am still here. But I do want to tell you how much I have appreciated and enjoyed some of the things that make this organization so special – not just the business side, but the fun and the laughter that I have shared with my fellow members of the Executive and members at the meetings  – to say nothing of the many interesting sessions working for the members.  For the Senators and Observers who have attended the many Senates with me every May and October, St. Raphael has looked after us well!

“Life gives us brief moments with another...but sometimes in those brief moment we get memories that last a lifetime...”

Thank you all for these great memories!

Sharron McMann

President.
